I found out about these amazing little cookies while studying in New Zealand. My friends were outraged to hear I had never had a tim tam slam. What's a tim tam slam? Well it's the second greatest way to enjoy these cookies!! Here's a 'how to' demonstrated by Today's Letters.
Simply bite off both ends. Stick one end in a hot drink and the other in your mouth. Use the tim tam as a straw! You get all the wonderful melted filling along with some of your drink! Make sure to eat the cookie quick because they tend to melt and fall apart once you slam!
I used to think this was the single greatest way to consume a tim tam. Now it most definitely second best. What is the best? I'm so glad you asked!! TIM TAM BROWNIES. We (yes we) are going to bake them into BROWNIES! Boom. Food mind blown.
I found this idea while browsing food gawker and couldn't wait to try. Tim tams were out at my Cost Plus World Market for WEEKS!! It was the longest few weeks of my life!! But alas they are back and I have seen nirvana.
The Tim Tam Brownie (from Lick That Spoon)
Here's what you need:
-A full package of tim tams (I used regular but carmel filled would also be fantastic. Also don't buy just one package..)
-1/2 cup butter
-1/2 cup cocoa powder (I used raw)
-1 cup brown sugar, packed
-2 eggs
-1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup flour
-1/4 tsp salt
Here's how:
First start eating the second package of tim tams, you'll need all 11 for your brownies! Melt the butter on the stove. Combine cocoa powder and sugar in a non plastic bowl. When the butter is melted, pour into chocolate and sugar, mix. Then beat the eggs and vanilla in a separate bowl. Add to the mixture. You may want to let the butter cool a little before adding the eggs so you don't accidentally cook them! Add the flour and salt. Stir until combined. This really comes together very easily and I mixed it all by hand.
Now listen (read) carefully. Grease an 8x8 pan. Put a thin layer of batter on the bottom of the pan. This gets tricky in the greased pan. Once the layer is down, add the tim tams!
Then pour the rest of the batter over the top! It might look a little uneven but it'll sort itself out in the oven. Bake at 375f (190c) for 15 minutes. Let cool and serve!! Make sure to hide some before sharing because they will not last!!
